Insight Into Harry Potter: Behind The ScenesThis issue regarding Harry Potter to the Christian is no different than any other situation the Word of God has already addressed. How often the Word of God admonishes us to be a light to the world, to be living epistles (living letters) known and read of all men, to be salt in the earth. When Believers abandon their post or shun their responsibilities to occupy until Jesus returns, we allow people to appear out of no where and command prayer to be taken out of schools, and the results seem as if it happened almost uncontested by the called-out ones. A frog doesn't know it's being boiled until it's literally cooked because of its unique ability to adapt to the environment. Don't allow the world to desensitize us to ways that are not pleasing to God. The Word of God tells us in Romans 12:1-2, "And so dear brothers, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living sacrifice, holy-the kind He can accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how His ways will really satisfy you." (New Living Translation) Darkness is getting darker in this world and we do not have to participate, and we shouldn't be ignorant (lack knowledge) of the wiles (tricks) of the devil. Listen to this quote: "See what I've become", the face said, "mere shadow and vapor". "I have form only when I can share another's body, but there have always been those willing to let me into their hearts and mind, unicorn blood has strengthened me these past weeks." This is an excerpt from a Harry Potter book. In chapter 10 of one of the Harry Potter books, an 11-year old girl asks the evil spirit of Voldemort to arise in her and she recounts in her diary, "I don't know what has come over me (murdering people), I'm doing things I have no control over". In chapter 13, Voldemort's spirit starts laughing and mocking Harry and says, "she didn't know she was killing on Halloween when she had blood all over her". Who is Voldemort? He is an evil spirit who is an enemy of the Harry Potter character. Voldemort killed Harry's parents. Harry's mother gave her life for Harry so that he could be saved. Through this love sacrifice, Harry was protected from death. Voldemort (Harry's arch-enemy) takes a vial of blood from Harry (book #4) in order to have the blood run through his own veins so that he can be resurrected and have a body. That is how powerful the blood sacrifice is to these characters. One six-year old child told me, from her understanding, that "Harry gets his power from drinking unicorn blood. Harry's last name "Potter" means female goddess who created human beings from clay, and that the God of Israel copied from her because He, the God of Israel, could not give birth. Harry Potter's character lies, is rebellious to authority, casts curses, yet at his school he is rewarded in spite of his defiance. What lesson can a child receive from that? What Are The Children Saying?"I'd like to go to wizard school, learn magic, and put spells on people. I'd make up an ugly spell, and then it's payback time". Catherine, age 9 The Association of Teachers and Lecturers had this to say, "This goes beyond a case of reading a Harry Potter story, this represents an extremely worrying trend among young people". Who Publishes This Book?Scholastic Inc., the largest publisher of children's books, reaching 32-million children per year, also publishes books that introduce witchcraft and spiritism, including the book series called Goosebumps. Scholastic Inc., using its monopoly and prominence in the school system, recommends that teachers read Harry Potter stories aloud to children--in which hundreds of teachers are doing. While bible reading is banned in schools, doctrines of devils are accepted and repackaged in the form of Harry Potter books and practical exercise. Bridges are quite evident. The child is introduced to the so-called fantasy literature in the school system which is supported by taxpayer money. It is a religion being taught through Harry Potter and other reading materials and tools that supports further in-depth discovery, and leads you to websites that are fascinating you with witchcraft, philosophical world view, and instructions on how to cast spells. In addition, Warner Brothers' websites ask you to enroll into the Hogworth's school of witchcraft and wizardry. Joanne Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, said "she knows the characters are evil, but moral". Though her characters are fictional, her inspiration behind them are borrowed from paganism, satanism, druidism, spells, incantation, celtic religion, and witchcraft, and its philosophy is put into Harry Potter. These Harry Potter books introduce the children overtly and covertly to witchcraft, curses and spells, divination and sorcery, occult symbology, evolution and reincarnation, demon possession, seasonal/nature celebrations, communing with the dead and spirit world, shape shifting, and more. Deuteronomy 18:9-12 says, "When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord. Romans 12:9 says, "Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good." Therefore, we know this book is not of God. We are researching further as to our proactive stand in this matter. In the interim, we have some credible book and video resources available at Cornerstone Bookstores. Line Upon Line StrategyThe Harry Potter series have many subtleties that can easily be overlooked by the casual reader. The series allows the reader to grow up with the character, therefore giving the character a human quality (growth). Book #1 begins with an 11-year old, Harry Potter, as a beginner learning these arts. In Book #2, Harry Potter is now a little more advanced at the age of 12. In Book #5, Harry is 14-years old and very competent in the so-called black arts. This strategy offers subliminal suggestions that mastery is a process and can be fun. Remember the reader is looking at another child, though fictional, and identifying with his experiences as well as his disappointments with others. Actually what makes this approach more dangerous reading for our children, is that this story is couched in fantasy language and made to be humorous. It is beautifully written and extremely provocative reading and once read leads children to want the next one. This is what's so harmful. The Good NewsThe Word of God tells us in Proverbs 11:6, "the seed of the righteous shall be delivered, and no weapon formed against us or our children shall prosper". We need more Christians in schools and Christian schools to combat this assault. We do have a school called Living Word Christian Academy for your consideration.
